Tedeschi-Trucks and Ken-Ducks Rule This Weekend

579

This is one of those colossal Louisville weekends — with so much to do and all without crossing a bridge. I want to point out and promote two big events for good causes, which is not in any way to dismiss the Idea Festival or the NuLu Fest, both of which I have plans to attend.

On Saturday afternoon at Papa John’s Cadinal Stadium, there will something a lot more entertaining than a football game going on. The southern Blues of the Tedeschi-Trucks Band will play to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The husband-wife team of Derrick Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, which gets plenty of airtime on WFPK-FM.

You don’t see a national act like that playing a charity event, so kudos to the CF folks for putting on the show. Earlier in the day, Coach Charlie Strong (who has the weeked off) will participate in the “Climb for Life Event” with some of his players by walking the steps at Cardinal Stadium to raise money for a cure.

Her’es the poster for the big event:

Ken-Ducks on the Pond/Ohio:

One of my favorite local charitable organizations is Harbor House, which provides a place  that empowers individuals with disabilities by providing meaningful work and activities at its South End home.

Leigh Ann Yost, the musician (who will also be playing at the NuLu Festival Saturday), is on the Harbor House staff and is one of the most enthusiastic supporters of her work I’ve ever seen — she even wore the Duck Suit at a U of L football game. Tha’s her son in the car below. The car? Oh, yeah, if you adopted a duck and it is pulled out of the Ohio River first on Saturday, you get it.

Near Joe’s Crab Shack, they’ll release 20,000 ducks into the Ohio, Harbor House has been selling the ducks for $5 for months, and will be giving away a Honda Fit for the first-place duck owner. Other prizes are gift certificates for $2,000 and $1,000. There’s a chance somebody will win $1,000,000. Its a spectacle worth seeing, and there’s all sorts of activities surrounding the race.
