TGIF Local Lunch Post – District 13’s Homestyle Sauce, Chops and Subs for Savory Fans

Where there's smoke there's fire! BBQ and the trimmings for all tastes at Fairdale's historic Shack.

Keep going for about ten minutes past downtown Louisville and you’ll be ready to chow down in District 13. You may be lucky enough to join Metro Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch and constituents for  pub grub, picnic and family-style culinary traditions.

All fresh, all affordable and all locally owned and operated.

A vibrant community advocate, Welch is clearly dedicated to her district from the Jefferson Memorial Forest to the new Fairdale library. She furnished this list via Facebook and it should get you started with some savory lunchtime ideas. Take it away, Vicki!

First String is like a “Cheers” where everybody knows your name! Great daily specials like Meatloaf or Pork Chop Dinners.

Shack in the Back  has the best smoked BBQ in town with great homemade sides like fried corn, potato salad and Banana pudding.

Fat Daddy’s serves great pizza and awesome Stromboli Sandwiches.

Rubbie’s BBQ and Brew in Southside Drive which is another fabulous place with great BBQ and specials. Their Chef Salad can feed 4 people and their salad dressings are homemade.

For a more elegant meal we have Tuscany Italian Cuisine with a wide variety of pasta meals.

A quick carry out lunch can be purchased at the Fairdale Pic Pac with great country cooking items fried chicken, Mac n cheese and green beans.

Lots of fabulous lunch options in District 13! You won’t go hungry here.
