This message seems to have appeared last week at The Misfit Lou and The Hereafter’s social media accounts. It was a good run, just shy of three years. Their last day at 119 S. 7th St. (downtown) was Friday; we bid them farewell.

There’s really no good way to say this, so we’re just going to say it:
Hereafter & The Misfit are closing.
We have dug deep—and then somehow dug even deeper—to keep this weird little place alive. Through ice storms, flooding, rising costs, broken shit, long nights and all the other things that come with trying to keep an independent bar and restaurant going, we have poured an incredible amount of blood, sweat, tears, love and probably more than a little bit of our sanity into these walls.
And sadly, we’ve reached the point where there just isn’t anything left to give.
But more than anything, we are proud.
Most restaurants never make it through their first year. We did. We kept going. We built something weird and different and very us. We got to be a tiny part of keeping Louisville weird, and we will always be incredibly grateful for that.
To every person who walked through our doors, ordered a drink, ate with friends, watched a show, played trivia, danced, performed, celebrated something, got married or engaged, told a friend about us, worked a shift, or simply sat at our bar and let us be part of your life for a little while: Thank you.
And to every single person who helped us get this far—and those who are still in the trenches with us—we could never have done it without you. And know we will always be family.
Hereafter and The Misfit will always hold a very quirky, very special place in our hearts. We hope when you remember us, you remember the weird little place where you could always come exactly as you were.
So, come see us this week. Have one last drink with us. Or a few.

Send us your favorite photos and videos from your time at Hereafter. The good ones, the blurry ones, the ridiculous ones—all of it. We’re putting together a lookbook of this magical, quirky little place and all the people who made it what it was.
The doors may not stay open forever, but the stories, friendships, memories, and probably a few bad decisions made inside these walls aren’t going anywhere.
