LOUISVILLE, Ky. ––– An 11-day stretch with no regular season competition will end for Louisville City FC on Thursday at 7:30 when they take on the red-hot Rochester Rhinos at Louisville Slugger Field. It may be early in the season, but a lot is already on the line. A win for Louisville City FC would put them second in the Eastern Conference Table, while a win for Rochester would put them at the top.
“A lot of people have been complimentary of our result at Richmond,” Coach James O’Connor said. “I think that is great and we can build on it.Rochester obviously are unbeaten, they’ve had a great run. They just beat Montreal three-nil away. It will be a tough game for us, but one we are looking forward to.”
Rochester, which has played every game on the road so far this year, has only allowed one goal in three games. They have outscored opponents 5-1 and have taken 37 shots to their opponents’ 17.
Just two games into the franchise, Louisville City FC has already began making noise in the league. After a dominating performance in their home opener, Lou City took a point from a Richmond team that have made it to the postseason 20 out of the clubs 22 years of existence.
“We know how good they are,” defender Tarek Morad said. “We need to execute our game plan and put them under some pressure. We have to work hard off the ball and be able to win it back. Obviously, play our style of play and try to get three points.”
Louisville is currently 5th on the table, but a game behind every team in front of them. With four points in two games Louisville sits five points from the top and two points behind the Rhinos of Rochester.
Players to Watch from Rochester:
Christian Volesky:Has scored two goals in three games.
Alex Dixon: Has taken nine shots, 6 of which were on target and has scored one goal.
Onua Obasi: The defender assisted in the game winning goal back in Week 2 versus Pittsburgh and was named to the Week 2 USL Team of the Week.
Players to Watch from Louisville
Adam West: The defender played and won a regular season title while with Rochester under head coach Bob Lilly.
Matt Fondy: The former Chicago Fire striker gets a lot of attention from the opponents back line which frees up scoring opportunities for the midfielders, as has been evident in the last two matches. With 5 preseason goals, the Californian poses an incredible scoring threat.
Charlie Adams:The Englishman returns this week after his Man of the Match performance versus Saint Louis. Adams scored a spectacular goal in the second half versus STLFC and was clearly one of the better players of the afternoon. He did, however, sustain a knock that sidelined him and prevented him from being able to make the trip to Richmond.
