There are so many ways to connect with nature in Louisville, from our forests to Waterfront Park. And soon, there could be another way to do it that will be unmatched by any other natural attraction in the area.
Plans call for a 22-acre botanical garden to be built at the intersection of River Road and Frankfort Avenue. Ironically, it used to be a city dump. That was created to handle the debris left behind from the 1937 flood. Nearly 80 years later, the plan is to create “Botanica” : A collection of gardens linked by walkways.
And a conservatory that will house plants that don’t usually grow in this part of the world.
The design calls for a spiral path that leads to a platform overlooking the garden meadow.
The goal is create something as educational as it is beautiful. The seed is planted, and the fundraising is underway, so hopefully soon the dream of “Botanica” will become a reality.
And another jewel of Louisville will be “Uncovered”.
