Water is the Hot Topic at next Breakfast of Champions

March 11 Breakfast of Champions
with Mark Hogg of WaterStep

Our March 11 Breakfast of Champions brings the opportunity to get to know a Louisville leader whose organization is tackling one of the biggest challenges on our planet: access to safe water.

Mark Hogg is founder and CEO of WaterStep (previously EDGE OUTREACH), a Louisville-based organization that provides solutions to the root causes of waterborne illness through training and readily-available technology to empower self-sufficiency for people in crisis around the world. Under Mark’s leadership, WaterStep has been at the forefront of disaster relief efforts and provided safe drinking water for hundreds of thousands of people in more than 23 countries including Haiti, Kenya, India, Ethiopia, the Dominican Republic, and Costa Rica.

A few reasons why water is such a huge priority:

  • Less than one percent of the world’s water is suitable for human consumption.
  • A child dies every 20 seconds due to a waterborne illness.
  • As many as 135 million people will die from waterborne diseases by the year 2020-more than those who die from war, HIV and cancer each year combined.
  • Of the 6.7 billion people on earth, one in six lacks access to safe drinking water on a daily basis. That translates to 1.2 billion people who are at risk every day.

Mark is a dynamic leader known for his ability to motivate and empower ordinary people to do extraordinary things. He earned a BBA in business management from Belmont University, and was the recipient of the Social Entrepreneur Award in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2012 program in the Central Ohio and Kentucky region.
