From Louisville Public Media…
91.9 WFPK announces the launch of Louisville’s favorite concert series on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. The WFPK Waterfront Wednesday® Concert Series is a monthly free concert on the Big Four Lawn in Louisville Waterfront Park, located next to the newly opened Big Four Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridge.
This concert will feature Shakey Graves, JD McPherson and Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers. It’s sponsored by Goose Island Brewing Company, MINI of Louisville, Republic Bank, Passport Health Plan and Friends of the Waterfront. Additional support comes from Old 502 Winery and KitchenAid.
“As Shakey Graves, [Alejandro] Rose-Garcia plays a gnarly composite of blues and folk…. Gritty groans and sexy moans carry his stories of both accepting and trying to overcome personal challenges masked with old-timey Western imagery.” — Hilary Saunders, Paste Magazine
The music of JD McPherson is “pure-and-simple party music, make-out music and get-down-and-shake-it music, harbouring the sort of simple riffs and hooks that easily hop across the decades.” — BBC
“On record and live, Nicki Bluhm and her band the Gramblers cover a lot of ground; you hear Laurel Canyon folk, classic honky-tonk, horn-fueled soul, ebullient country-rock, Fleetwood Mac-brushed folky pop, and rootsy rock. Across it all, Bluhm and her players manage to be classic but not retro; the music is inescapably redolent of sounds you’ve heard before, while coming across as something that sounds like more than simply the sum of past parts.” — Stuart Munro, Boston Globe
The Big Four Lawn “opens” at 5pm, and the music begins promptly at 6pm. The remaining concert dates for the 2015 season are May 27, June 24, July 29, August 26 and September 30.
Parking information and additional details will be updated on wfpk.org and the Waterfront Park website, louisvillewaterfront.com. Outside alcohol is prohibited. No coolers, glass or pets allowed in the event area of the Big Four Lawn. For more information, please call (502) 814-6519.
