WAVE’s New Boss Looks a Lot Like the Old Boss

They don’t mess around at Raycom Media.

Ken Selvaggi is the new boss at WAVE

The owner of WAVE-TV often promotes from within, and has tapped Ken Selvaggi from Raycom’s WSFA-TV in Montgomery to replace the retiring Steve Langford, according to WSFA’s web site.

Selvaggi announced to his staff on Monday that he will be moving to Louisville after nearly five years. Selvaggi may be familiar to local media types, as he was a producer at WHAS-TV in 1989-90. Langford just announced he was leaving WAVE on Friday.

In Montgomery, Selvaggi also did on-air editorials twice a week, so the Hot Button tradition at WAVE is likely to continue.

In the weirdly promotional news announcement on WSFA, the VP and GM is credited with keeping the station at the top of the ratings there. That’ll be a big challenge in Louisville, where WAVE was mired in last place in all news time periods in the February sweeps.

Selvaggi appears to be cut from the same cloth as Langford, and was active in the Alabama town’s community affairs.
