WDRB found a replacement for Barry Bernson in Texas. Sterling Riggs will start his Fox in the Morning duties on August 19. He’s most recently been doing sports in Denison, Texas, the 161st-ranked TV market. It’s a big move up. In 2010, he participated in his station’s “Dancing with the Stars” promotion.
Bernson, who will continue to appear on the station, is giving up his regular morning anchor duties.
Riggs joins Candyce Clifft on the morning show, which also features Lindsay Allen. Here’s the official release from WDRB:
WDRB today announced that Sterling Riggs, most recently a nightly news and sports anchor and Senior Producer for KTEN in Denison, Texas, will be teamed with Candyce Clifft as the station’s new co-anchor of its morning show, “WDRB in the Morning.” Riggs will replace the program’s current co-anchor, Barry Bernson, who announced his retirement in July.
Riggs, who has been with NBC affiliate KTEN since 2009, also has previous TV experience at KXAN in Austin and KLST in San Angelo.
“The demands of the morning co-anchor position are many and unique,” said Barry Fulmer, WDRB Vice-President and Director of News, “and it takes a special kind of person to handle them. Sterling brings an energy and enthusiasm to his work that’s really uncommon, and I think it makes him the perfect candidate to join Candyce in our ongoing effort to maintain ‘WDRB in the Morning’s status as the dominant morning show in the market.
“He’s knowledgeable, he’s personable and he’s really excited about the chance to explore an entirely new part of the country. I’m confident that his natural curiosity will make him the perfect fit for our morning team, and that he’ll quickly become a new favorite with our viewers.”
Riggs will make his “WDRB in the Morning” debut on Friday, August 19.
