You may be seeing a number of new faces walking around Louisville over the next couple of months! Welcome them with open arms, they are Ford employees transferring to Louisville to take on jobs at the two plants here. Over the past couple of months, my wife Norine and I have been busy showing a number of Ford employees and their families around town. Many are excited to be moving here, but of course like anyone transferring to a new
city, they have a lot of questions.
Just last night I was on the phone with the wife of Ford employee who is transferring here, but had concerns about finding a place to live and the number of things to do, see and eat! I remember when Norine and I moved here 17 years ago, I had just been hired by WHAS 11 to co-host Louisville
Tonight Live. We had the same questions and concerns. What we found was that Louisville is an amazing city! After moving around the country for some 15+ years, Louisville, offered what many cities lacked.
So for Ford employees, here are some observations from someone who moved here 17 years ago:
1) You will immediately find more smiling faces andpeople willing to help you!
2) The Louisville area is not only clean, but also very easy to navigate.
3) There are some great quality of life issues as well, prices for food, gas and utilities are typically lower in Louisville than in many parts of the country.
4) Probably the biggest plus for us was finding that Louisville has a lot to offer when it comes to entertainment.
5) Actors Theatre, Broadway series, Opera, Orchestra (though it needs some financial help), plenty
of events to attend and all at reasonable prices.
6) I also can’t forget to mention the number of restaurants that we have here in Louisville. It’s amazing, not just chains, but individual startups that make this city one of the best in the country for dining out.
The wife of the Ford employee I was talking to last night loves Italian food! She says they really don’t have a good Italian restaurant in the
city she’s currently living in. I explained her taste buds are in for a culinary extravaganza when she moves to Louisville, naming Italian
restaurants that will easily satisfy her craving for Italian food.
So for any of you who see new faces in your neighborhood and find out they are Ford employees. Be sure to say hi and tell him about why you love Louisville. And for the Ford employees who may be reading this, welcome, you’re in for an exciting time here in Louisville!
