West End Tragedy – Press Conferences Today

UPDATE FROM METRO GOVERNMENT: Mayor Greg Fischer will meet with business, civic and religious leaders at 10 a.m. today to disucss yesterday’s voilence in Western Louisville. A portion of the meeting will be open to media.

Fischer also will meet with Metro Council members at 3:30 p.m. today to get their ideas for improving safety and curbing violence. That entire meeting is open to media.

Both meetings will occur at Metro Hall, 4th Floor.

The tragic occurrences of Thursday afternoon in West Louisville have triggered much concern about conditions there and exactly what causes people to start shooting each other there. Even news personnel, in Facebook posts after the event, were expressing thanks that they weren’t caught in crossfire and being mentioned for their heroics in covering the shooting, which was a dangerous scene.

There’s a press conference this morning – details below. In addition, Mayor Fischer and Police Chief Steve Conrad, once they’re through Biking to Work today, will address the West End situation at a 7 p.m. press conference.

Councilwoman Attica Scott and Christopher 2X to hold Press Conference in Response to Recent Shootings

Louisville, KY -Calling for Calm and Unity, Councilwoman Attica Scott and Christopher 2X along with members of “Connected Voices” express their sincere and heartfelt condolences to all members of the families involved in the devastating violence that took place in District 1 at 32nd and Kentucky and 26th and Elliot this afternoon.  Immediately following the news of these incidents, Councilwoman Scott sent a message to Chief Conrad and Major Kristofeck of the 2nd Division LMPD to requesting a press conference tomorrow morning denouncing the violence that took place today, while discussing plans to avoid the magnitude of a situation like this in the future.

“Public Safety is a top priority throughout this entire city and this type of violence cannot and will not be tolerated,” said Councilwoman Scott. “ We have to ensure the safety of our citizens, particularly in times like this.”

The press conference will be held at 10:00AM at the Parkland Boys & Girls Club located at 32nd & Greenwood Avenue.
