Bash for Brightside and all things Green

My kelly green manicure is not just for St. Patrick’s Day, so it must be Green Tie Bash time! As usual, the event benefits Brightside and is presented by the Young Professional Association of Louisville and Louisville Urban League Young Professionals. (Full disclosure – I’m a former YPAL board member.)

This year, we’ll be celebrating 25 years of beautifying our fair city. Our old Kentucky home is certainly more fair due to the work of Brightside and many volunteers who care about a clean and green city – not to mention lots of pretty flowers in the spring just in time for Derby and tourists. I volunteered with the old Operation Brightside all the way back in high school when Barbara Bush was still the director. I hope that, given the current city budget crunch, Brightside will remain a staple in Louisville for years to come. Most of the Brightside staff have jumped ship and moved onto *ahem* greener pastures in recent months over concerns of the future of the program.

The Acorn Awards sponsored by the Green Building will honor the winners – Owsley Brown II and ole Jerr will be honored, too. Tonight, we’ll get down with Nappy Roots.

I really hope that one GTB tradition continues – the oh-so nontraditional delivery of sliders from White Castle around midnight. Deep in the weeds of green cocktails, the signature food of the drunk and buzzed is delivered right to the party. Hope to see you there.
