The grand opening isn’t until February 4th, but whiskey enthusiasts and open-minded laymen alike will find themselves with an alluring first-chance opportunity this Saturday (January 21), as Matthew Landan’s ‘Haymarket Whiskey Bar’ opens soft with an evening of fine spirits and live music.
Having previously operated ‘Derby City Espresso’ at the same historic East Market Street location for nearly five years, Landan told LouisvilleKY.com that there is a greater crossover than many might imagine between lovers of artisanal coffees and artisanal spirits, and hopes to carry over the implicit goal of education when it comes to the ‘Haymarket Whiskey Bar’ and its otherwise daunting selection of more than 50 whiskeys, more than 50 craft beers and 7 rotating taps.
Haymarket will feature live music four nights a week with local/regional-centric acts spanning everything from singer/songwriters and americana, to jazz and indie rock. This Saturday’s preview event, beginning at 9:00pm, will feature local blue-sy/rock favorites The Tunesmiths and Discount Guns, while the grand opening at this beginning of February boasts even more live jams from the Whiskey Bent Valley Boys alongside special guests The Shovel Bums.
Haymarket Whiskey Bar will be open Tuesday-Saturday, 4:00pm to 2:00am, and Landan hopes the venue will attract any and all looking to savor, as opposed to throw-back, some choice beverages amidst the cozy, historic architecture and live entertainment, adding, “We’re not going to be that 4:00am close-out bar, but we can definitely get your evening started out right.”
Located at 331 East Market St., the soft opening of ‘Haymarket Whiskey Bar’ is this Saturday at 9:00pm.
